[2022-08-24] Novena etapa: O'Cádavo-Lugo; Ninth stage: O'Cádavo-Lugo

Hoy comenzamos un tramo muy largo hacia Lugo, la ciudad más grande de Galicia. Dejamos O'Cadavo con la niebla que nos acompaña todas las mañanas desde el primer día.

Today we started a very long stretch towards Lugo, the largest city in Galicia. We left O'Cadavo with the fog that accompanies us every morning since the first day.

El recorrido toma 30.8 km con 540 metros de subida y 800 metros de bajada.

The route takes 30.8 km with 540 meters of ascent and 800 meters of descent.

Inmediatamente después de la bajada inicial comenzamos una subida en bosques para luego bajar hacia una pequena población llamada Vilalle.

Immediately after the initial descent we began a climb through the woods and then another descend towards a small village called Vilalle.

Más adelante entramos a Castroverde, única de las dos poblaciones del trayecto con servicios. Allí vimos la Iglesia de Santa Maria de Vilabade, también conocida como la Catedral de Castroverde.

Further on we entered Castroverde, one of the two towns on the route with services. There we saw the Church of Santa Maria de Vilabade, also known as the Cathedral of Castroverde.

Despues andar 3 km pasamos por Souto de Torres donde vimos por primera vez una marcación antigua del camino primitivo , que a diferencia con los mojones y conchillas es una columna con una crucifijo en la parte superior. Después supimos que todavía se encuentran varias de éstas marcaciones a lo largo del camino.

After walking 3 km we passed through Souto de Torres where we saw for the first time an old marking of the primitive road, which unlike the current landmarks with shells and arrows were a column with a crucifix on top. Later we learned that there are still several of these markings along the way.

Allí mismo, vimos una construcción en un jardín que nos resulto llamativo. Resultó ser un hórreo gallego en desuso como tal.

Right there, we saw a construction in a garden that we found striking. It turned out to be a Galician granary in disuse as such.

Seguimos caminando hasta llegar a Villar de Cas donde paramos para refrescarnos. Era un bar donde nos encontramos con otros peregrinos con los que compartíamos parte del Camino.

We continue walking until we reach Villar de Cas where we stop to freshen up. It was a bar where we met other pilgrims with whom we shared part of the Camino.

Allí había un planisferio donde los peregrinos indican con un alfiler de que parte del mundo proceden. Si bien mayoritariamente se mostraban de Europa, había peregrinos de todos los continentes, incluyendo La Pampa, San Carlos de Bariloche, La Plata y Vancouver!

There was a map where the pilgrims indicate with a pin which part of the world they come from. Although they were mostly from Europe, there were pilgrims from all continents, including La Pampa, San Carlos de Bariloche, La Plata and Vancouver!

Como siempre el paisaje sorprende con ventanucas floridas, o con una silla posiblemente cómoda hecha de un tronco para disfrutar la mañana a la entrada de la casa, o con la producción de zapallos expuesta a la entrada del campo, o algún árbol "con cara de preocupación".

As always, the landscape surprises with flowery little windows, or with a possibly comfortable chair made of a trunk to enjoy the morning at the entrance of the house, or with the production of pumpkins exposed at the entrance of the field, or some tree "with a expression of concern".

Y cuando los kilómetros se van sintiendo, que mejor que este cartel para no parar y seguir adelante: "no me pares ahora"!

And when the miles are ticking away, what better than this sign to not stop and keep going: "don't stop me now"!

Más adelante, Lugo nos recibio con mucho calor y grandes contrastes entre su actual edificación y su muralla romana construida en el siglo III, la cual se mantiene casi intacta.

Later, Lugo received us with high temperatures and great contrasts between its current building and its Roman wall built in the 3rd century, which remains almost intact.

Un día de reposo en Lugo nos dio la oportunidad de visitar la ciudad y su magnífica catedral.

A day of rest in Lugo gave us the opportunity to visit the city and its magnificent cathedral.

Además de visitar la ciudad usamos el día adicional en Lugo para preparar la próxima etapa. 

In addition to visiting the city, we used the extra day in Lugo to prepare for the next stage.
