El fin del camino - The end of the road

El Camino de Santiago es un conjunto de rutas de peregrinaje que se inician en diferentes puntos de Europa y que se recorrían y recorren para venerar al apóstol Santiago cuyos restos se encuentran en la Catedral de Santiago de Compostela.

The Camino de Santiago is a set of pilgrimage routes that begin in different parts of Europe and that were traveled and are traveled to venerate the apostle Saint James the Great whose remains are found in the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela.

La primera ruta que siguieron los peregrinos fue la llamada Camino Primitivo, (que es la acabamos de culminar). El Primitivo es el primer camino del que hay registros históricos. Fue Alfonso II de Asturias el primero en peregrinar a Santiago de Compostela en el año 814 dC. 

Desde 1990 ha habido una gran recuperación de rutas históricas. Para fines del 2010 se habían catalogado una red de alrededor 280 caminos.

The first route that the pilgrims followed was the so-called Camino Primitivo, (which is the one we have just completed). El Primitivo is the first path for which there are historical records. Alfonso II of Asturias was the first to make a pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela in 814 AD.

 Since 1990 there has been a great revival of historic routes. By the end of 2010, a network of around 280 roads had been catalogued.

Los peregrinos llevan credenciales que sirven para identificarlos como tales para el uso de los albergues. Estas credenciales son entregadas por organizaciones de peregrinos del Camino en todo el mundo.

The pilgrims carry credentials that serve to identify them as such for the use of the hostels. These credentials are delivered by Camino pilgrim organizations around the world.

Para certificar el cumplimiento del recorrido, las credenciales van selladas a lo largo del camino y ellas permiten solicitar la Compostela, certificado que acredita el peregrinaje, y también el Certificado de Distancia del peregrinaje. Los sellos se obtienen en los albergues, oficinas de turismo y bares a lo largo del Camino.

To certify the completion of the route, the credentials are stamped along the way and they allow you to request the Compostela, a certificate that accredits the pilgrimage, and also the Distance Certificate of the pilgrimage. The stamps are obtained in the hostels, tourist offices and bars along the Camino.

La Compostela es el documento oficial que entrega la Oficina de Acogida al Peregrino en Santiago.

The Compostela is the official document delivered by the Pilgrim Reception Office in Santiago.

En la Compostela se escribe el nombre del peregrino en latín.

In the Compostela, the name of the pilgrim is written in Latin.
